Photo Guidelines for Picture Perfect Pictures

1. Use a good photo. It sounds obvious, but make sure your dog is in crisp, clear focus, and well composed. Get close, stay low, and focus on the eyes. Be patient, dogs aren't easy. You can use a digital camera or traditional film or prints and have it scanned at a local photo store. For more tips on photographing pets, look here. Or here. Or here. You get the picture... (or at least you will).

2. Use high enough resolution. The pictures in the book will have a final size of approximately 5x7 inches, and the resolution should be 300 DPI. This works out to a pixel size of 1500x2100 pixels. 3 megapixels is the smallest camera size you should use, and 5 megapixels or above is better. Be sure your camera is set to take pictures with the highest resolution possible. Look here for more information on the subject.

3. Use the correct file format. We require photos to be in JPEG file format in RGB or CMYK. They should be saved using the highest quality settings available.

4. Clean up the photo. Digitally retouching a photo can greatly enhance it, taking what might be a mediocre photo and making it terrific. If you don't have the skill to do it yourself, consider having a photo store or retouching expert. Remember, your dog will be in print, and will blame you if it doesn't look good.
